What is the best free antivirus protection, how do I get it? Protect Your Computer

What is the best antivirus on the market today?

I urgently need a good Antivirus which is compatible with Windows XP and is fast in scanning documents. I also need an antivirus which can scan in DOS mode or when the computer is booting.

Right now AVG. Avast is okay as well as McAfee. Norton is not exactly the best, but they are the most popular due to publicity. Avast uses a lot of memory, so if you have enough use that. However, over all it would be AVG. You can research the product and see how well it does and how easy it is.

Well, there are two free ones that rank pretty high in my opinion.

    Both are available at http://www.download.com...

    Avast and AVG

Search for both at download.com and make sure you get the free home versions… AVG is amazing and Avast will run before startup..

AVG – http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1 has a fee version that is lightweight and regularly updated.

There are many others out there that will perform just as good a job but this is my personal favourite.

There are a lot of antivirus which compatible with Windows XP now a days. Normally DOS mode is not working with Windows XP and virus will not attack in DOS mode becos the era has change to Windows. I would recommend Norton Antivirus (heavy, expensive but reliable) or AVG if u wan something not heavy and free LOL. By the way Heavy means that Antivirus will make use a lot of ur computer resources
